Using spironolactone counteracts androgenic side effects from roids and promote skin health. Androgens increase sebum production --> to acne, and accelerate skin aging.

1. Understanding Spironolactone

  • How it works: Spironolactone reduces androgen receptor activity in your face, leading to decreased oil production and mitigation of androgen-related side effects like acne and rough skin texture.

Why topical: Unlike oral spironolactone, the topical form targets skin without affecting hormone levels, making it a better option for not nuking your T

2. How to Use Topical Spironolactone

  1. Source from India (alldaychemist/INDIAMART): Look for a prescription-grade topical spironolactone cream or gel. It’s often available in concentrations ranging from 2% to 5%.

  2. Cleanse Your Skin: Wash your face with a gentle, non-comedogenic cleanser to remove dirt, oil, and sweat. Avoid harsh exfoliants before applying the treatment.

  3. Apply Sparingly:

    • Use a light drop that covers the entire face, or focus on areas prone to oiliness or acne (T-zone).

    • For anti-aging, apply to areas with visible fine lines or where skin thinning is noticeable.

  4. Timing: Apply once daily, preferably at night, as part of your evening skincare routine. I will apply it with my moisturizer and estriol gel all 3 mixed together in my palm.

    • If used during the day, always follow with sunscreen to prevent UV damage.

  5. Combine with Moisturizer: Use a hydrating, acne-safe moisturizer after the application to prevent dryness and irritation. Look for one with niacinamide or ceramides to support the skin barrier.

3. Additional Steps for Anti-Aging and Skin Health

  • Hydration & Barrier Repair: Add products like hyaluronic acid AM to improve skin hydration and resilience. This helps me if im overly dry that day, I dont use it EVERY day just when needed.

  • Sunscreen Daily: Androgens can increase skin sensitivity to UV damage. Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen every morning to protect from aging and hyperpigmentation.

  • Avoid Irritants: Limit harsh scrubs or alcohol-based products, which can strip the skin and exacerbate issues.

  • Skin Improvement Timeline:

    • Acne reduction: 4-8 weeks

    • Texture and oil control: 8-12 weeks

    • Anti-aging benefits: Gradual improvement over 3-6 months
